Greetings From The Director
Thank you for your interest in the City of Leesburg. We are a special community: a City
bound by old – fashioned values and a common goal – to be a community where a family
can grow, work and retire. We cherish our past, yet offer new development a chance to
enhance our quality of life, and the lives of generations to come. The City’s Community
Development Department, along with the Planning and Zoning Commission, play key roles
in determining the future of Leesburg. On behalf of the Community Development
Department, I invite you to experience Leesburg, our past, present and future.
About the City
The city consists of approximately 24 square miles, with much of the area lying between Lake
Griffin to the north and Lake Harris to the south. Hundreds of smaller lakes and ponds dot the
local landscape. Located in sunny Central Florida, midway between the Atlantic Ocean and the
Gulf of Mexico, Leesburg is situated just 80 miles northeast of Tampa, 70 miles southwest of
Daytona Beach, and 40 northwest of Orlando. The City sits at the crossroads of U.S. Highway 441,
U.S. Highway 27, and State Road 44.
The mission of the Community Development Department of the City of Leesburg is to provide
professional, proactive zoning, planning, building, and mapping services to citizens,
developers, and government officials which enhances the future quality of life for the
people of Leesburg.
