Subject:                      Resolution authorizing a contract amendment with Hewitt Power & Communications for an additional year

Staff Recommendation:

Staff recommends approval of Amendment No. 7 providing a one-year extension to the existing unit price contract with Hewitt Power and Communications for underground utility work on an as needed basis.

Analysis:

The current contract with Hewitt Power & Communications, Inc. (Hewitt) expires on December 31, 2009.  If approved, the contract extension will allow continued construction of underground utilities in a timely fashion.  The Electric Department is currently using this contract for underground utility construction related to the Perkins to Griffin project.  A contract extension will allow the utility relocation project to be completed without any delays.

A bid will be issued next year to establish a new underground utility construction contract.

Options:

1.  Approve the contract extension with Hewitt Power and Communications; or

2.  Such alternative action as the Commission may deem appropriate

Fiscal Impact: 

Construction services provided under this contract will be funded through the individual project authorizations, as budgeted.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LEESBURG, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND CITY CLERK TO EXECUTE A SEVENTH AMENDMENT TO A UNIT PRICE AGREEMENT WITH HEWITT POWER AND COMMUNICATIONS, INC. FOR UTILITY CONSTRUCTION SERVICES; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LEESBURG, FLORIDA:

            THAT the Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized to execute Amendment No. 7 to an existing agreement with HEWITT POWER AND COMMUNICATIONS, INC. whose address is 3839 CR-48, Okahumpka, Florida 34762 for underground utility construction services on a project-specific, as needed bases.

 THAT this resolution shall become effective immediately.
