Meeting Date:           December 20, 2010

From:                          William Chrisman, Police Chief

Subject:                      Request for authorization to change the future decals on marked patrol vehicles.

Staff Recommendation:

Staff recommends approval of the request from the Police Department to change the design of future patrol cars decals utilizing the proposed design through an attrition process.

The purpose of this request is to change the out-dated decals on the marked patrol vehicles while instilling a greater sense of pride for the officers through their involvement in the recommendation process.  Officers were asked to review six potential decal changes and vote for one.  Attachment #1 received 30 votes and Attachment #2 received 15 votes, with the remaining images receiving fewer votes.

1.      Approve the request to change the design of future patrol cars decals through attrition; or

2.   Such alternative action as the Commission may deem appropriate

Fiscal Impact

Current marked patrol vehicles decals cost approximately $325 per vehicle installed.  The proposed new decals will cost approximately $285 per vehicle installed, resulting in a net savings of $40 per vehicle.
