Subject: Request for authorization to change the future decals on marked patrol vehicles.
Staff Recommendation:
Staff recommends approval of the request from the Police Department to change the design of future patrol cars decals utilizing the proposed design through an attrition process.
Analysis:
The purpose of this request is to change the out-dated decals on the marked patrol vehicles while instilling a greater sense of pride for the officers through their involvement in the recommendation process. Officers were asked to review six potential decal changes and vote for one. Attachment #1 received 30 votes and Attachment #2 received 15 votes, with the remaining images receiving fewer votes.
Options:
1. Approve the request to change the design of future patrol cars decals through attrition; or
2. Such alternative action as the Commission may deem appropriate
Fiscal Impact:
Current marked patrol vehicles decals cost approximately $325 per vehicle installed. The proposed new decals will cost approximately $285 per vehicle installed, resulting in a net savings of $40 per vehicle.
