Subject:                      Resolution authorizing acceptance of a Work Force Central Florida Employed Worker Training Award for $3,890.00 for training two

fire department members in Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting     

Staff Recommendation:

Staff recommends acceptance of a Work Force Central Florida Employed Worker Training Award to pay for training two firefighters in Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting.

Analysis:

With a recent retirement and departure of other FD members who were trained in Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF), the Leesburg Fire Department does not have enough firefighters trained in ARFF.  This Award will pay for two firefighters’ training in the highly specialized skill.

Options:

1.  Accept the Work Force Central Florida Employed Worker Training Award; or

2.  Such alternative action as the Commission may deem appropriate

Fiscal Impact: 

Acceptance of this Award will save the City $3,890.00.  Two other firefighters were sent to ARFF training through funds allocated in the Fire Department’s training budget.

RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LEESBURG, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING ACCEPTANCE OF AN AWARD FROM WORK FORCE OF CENTRAL FLORIDA FOR EMPLOYED WORKER TRAINING FOR $3,890.00 TO TRAIN TWO FIREFIGHTERS IN AIRCRAFT RESCUE FIRE FIGHTING; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LEESBURG, FLORIDA:

            THAT the Fire Department is authorized to accept an Award from Work Force Central Florida whose address is 707 Mendham Blvd., Suite 250 Orlando, Florida 32825 for $3,690.00 for the training of two firefighters in Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting.

 THAT this resolution shall become effective immediately.
