Subject: Resolution Authorizing Execution of a Roadway Illumination Services Agreement with the Florida Department of Transportation to provide highway lighting along SR 500 (US Hwy. 441) from Perkins to Griffin to SR 27 from Griffin to Shelfer Street
Staff Recommendation:
Staff recommends approval of the agreement with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) for illumination services on SR 500 (US Hwy. 441) from Perkins Street to Griffin Road to SR 27 Griffin to Shelfer Street.
Analysis:
The Commission adopted an illumination services agreement with FDOT on May 10, 2004, Resolution 7105 for SR 500 (US Hwy. 441) from Perkins Street to Griffin Road. On June 13, 2005 the Commission approved Resolution 7366, an amendment to the original FDOT Illumination Services Agreement. The amendment advised that the original contract was no longer valid and requested the Commission approve the new contract. The new figure was down from the original projected cost allowing more monies for the City’s decorative lighting design and installation.
The FDOT project widening of SR 500 (US Hwy. 441) from Perkins Street to Griffin Road required the city of Leesburg Electric Department in 2007 to relocate a substantial portion of existing overhead electric facilities within the project area. The FDOT has agreed to reimburse the City in the amount of $225,000.00 for the installation of the lighting system owned by the city of Leesburg electric Department within the road right of way area of SR 500 (US Hwy. 441) from Perkins to Griffin to SR 27 from Griffin to Shelfer Street.
Options:
1. Approve agreement with FDOT for Illumination Services on SR 500 (US Hwy. 441) from Perkins to Griffin and US 27 from Griffin to Shelfer Street; or
2. Such alternative action as the Commission may deem appropriate
Fiscal Impact:
The city will receive $225,000.00 to cover the estimated cost of the installation of equipment and facilities for providing illumination of the road.

A resolution of the City Commission of the City of Leesburg, Florida, authorizing the Mayor and the City Clerk to execute a Roadway Illumination Services Agreement with the State of Florida Department of Transportation (fDOT) to provide highway lighting along SR 500 (US Hwy. 441) from Perkins Street to Griffin Road to SR 27 Griffin to Shelfer Street; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LEESBURG, FLORIDA:
THAT the Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized to execute an agreement with The Florida Department of Transportation, whose address is 719 South Woodland Boulevard, DeLand, FL, 32720, for illumination services along SR 500 (US Hwy. 441) from Perkins Street to Griffin Road to SR 27 Griffin to Shelfer Street.
THAT this resolution shall become effective immediately.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Commission of the City of Leesburg, Florida, at a regular meeting held the 19th day of December 2011
