SUBJECT: Purchase request 44227 to Maroone Dodge of Pembroke Pines acquiring replacement Police vehicles by the Fleet Services Division
Staff Recommendation:
Staff recommends approval of purchase request 44227 for the purchase of eleven police pursuit vehicles from Maroone Dodge of Pembroke Pines, Florida for a total cost of $230,384.00.
Analysis:
The Fleet Services Division has requested the purchase of eleven model year 2012 Dodge Charger police pursuit vehicles to replace the same number of existing patrol vehicles. This purchase will result in the auction of eleven aging vehicles with higher than average maintenance and operation costs and their removal from fleet.
The Ford Crown Victoria pursuit vehicle used by the City is no longer manufactured and available from the Ford Motor Company. The Police Department and Fleet Services has evaluated the available policy pursuit vehicles and considers the Dodge Charger to be the vehicle most comparable to the Ford Crown Victoria. The Dodge Charger comes standard with a V6 engine that produces more horsepower that the Ford Crown Victoria V8; therefore a V8 engine upgrade was not requested in the Charger. The Dodge Charger is the least expensive in its class of police vehicles and has a cost which is less than last year’s Ford Crown Victoria. The Dodge Charger comes standard with a 5 year/100,000 mile power train warranty that has never been included with the Crown Victoria.
The Chevy Caprice police vehicle was considered, however, the cost would have been approximately $3,800 more per vehicle.
The Florida Sheriff Associations contract base price of each vehicle is $20,919.00. Fleet Services has added only one option of having the rear door locks and windows disabled for a cost of $25.00. This brings the total cost of each vehicle to $20,944.00. This purchase will be made using the Florida Sheriffs Association Bid No. 11-19-0907 from the awarded vendor Maroone Dodge of Pembroke Pines, FL. The Sheriffs contract is available for use by municipalities and saves our City and other agencies considerable time.
