RESOLUTION NO._______________
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF LEESBURG, FLORIDA ENCOURAGING THE LAKE COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
AND LAKE COUNTY ANIMAL SERVICES TO TAKE CERTAIN MEASURES TO DECREASE PET
OVERPOPULATION AND INCREASE PET ADOPTION; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, pets provide companionship to more than
71,000,000 households in the United States; and
WHEREAS, humane organizations and animal
shelters have to put down more than four million animals each year, many of
whom are healthy and adoptable, due to lack of critical resources and public
awareness; and
WHEREAS, Lake County Animal Services alone takes
in over 18,000 animals each year and euthanizes more than 5,000 of them; and
WHEREAS, spaying and neutering has been shown to
dramatically reduce the over population of pets and feral cats, proving to be a
wise investment in saving animal lives and taxpayer dollars;
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LEESBURG,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The Leesburg City Commission supports the
creation by the Lake County Board of County Commissioners of a subsidized
voluntary spay/neuter program to assist Lake County’s pet owners.
Section 2. The Leesburg
City Commission supports discounted rates for multiple pet adoptions.
Section 3. The
Leesburg City Commission will commit to assisting Lake County with enhanced
promotion of shelter pet adoption and awareness of the responsibilities of
proper pet ownership.
This resolution shall become effective
immediately.

Commission of the City of Leesburg, Florida, at a regular meeting held the 10th
day of September, 2012.
