Staff Recommendation:

Staff recommends adoption of a Social Network Policy for the Leesburg Public Library.

 

Analysis:

In keeping with the Leesburg Public Library’s mission to enrich “our community with service excellence to provide information, recreation and life-long learning opportunities,” the Library participates in “social software” applications whereby library staff and community members can interact through virtual (internet) communication.  Currently, the Library participates on Facebook with the primary goals of two-way communication between library users and library staff, and public relations and promotion of library collection, services and events.  The Social Network Policy defines the appropriate use and engagement of social media and/or social networking by the Leesburg Public Library.   

 

The Library Advisory Board voted on August 1, 2012 to recommend this policy to the City Commission for its adoption.

 

Options:

1.  Approve the resolution authorizing adoption of a Social Network Policy for the Leesburg Public Library, or

2.  Such alternative action as the Commission may deem appropriate

RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LEESBURG, FLORIDA AUTHORIZING ADOPTION OF A SOCIAL NETWORK POLICY FOR THE LEESBURG PUBLIC LIBRARY, AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LEESBURG, FLORIDA:

 

            THAT the City Commission hereby approves adoption of a Social Network Policy for the Leesburg Public Library.

 

             THAT this resolution shall become effective immediately.

 

PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Commission of the City of Leesburg, Florida, at a regular meeting held the _8th ____ day of _October___ 2012.
