Staff Recommendation:

Staff recommends execution of the agreement with Leesburg Cemeteries, Inc. for Fiscal Year 2012/13.

 

Analysis:

During the budget process, the Commission determined that civic funding for the FY 12/13 budget would be offered to those organizations that received funding in the previous year.  Leesburg Cemeteries, Inc. currently receives funding in the amount of $91,600.00.  That amount includes $84,000 that is paid in quarterly installments and $7,600.00 that is applied as a credit to their utility bills.  The attached agreement formalizes this commitment.

 

Options:

1.  Approve execution of the Civic Organization Funding Agreement with Leesburg Cemeteries, Inc.; or

2.  Such alternative action as the Commission may deem appropriate

 

Fiscal Impact: 

A total of $91,600 has been included in the approved Fiscal Year 2012/13 budget for this purpose.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LEESBURG, FLORIDA AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND CITY CLERK TO EXECUTE A CIVIC ORGANIZATION FUNDING AGREEMENT WITH LEESBURG CEMETERIES, INC. DURING FISCAL YEAR 2012-13; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

 

      WHEREAS, it is permissible for cities to make contributions to non-profit corporations where the contributions further a public purpose; and

     

      WHEREAS, Leesburg Cemeteries, Inc. is seeking a contribution from the City of Leesburg to help provide a public service to City residents; and

 

      WHEREAS, in the past there have been formal executed agreements between the City of Leesburg and agencies receiving such contributions; and

 

      WHEREAS, the City of Leesburg desires to continue having such agreements with the various agencies which receive annual contributions;

 

      NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LEESBURG, FLORIDA:

 

      That the Mayor and City Clerk of the City of Leesburg are hereby authorized and directed to execute the Civic Organization Funding Agreement between the City of Leesburg and Leesburg Cemeteries, Inc. whose address is PO Box 490804 totaling ninety-one thousand six hundred dollars ($91,600.00) during Fiscal Year 2012-13.

 

      That this resolution shall take effect immediately.

 

PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Commission of the City of Leesburg, Florida, at a regular meeting held the 8th day of October, 2012.
