Subject: Resolution Appointing a Library Advisory Board Member

Staff Recommendation:

Staff recommends the appointment of one individual to the Library Advisory Board for a term of five years, said term to expire on September 30, 2017. The position was advertised, as required.

Analysis:

The five-year term of Library Advisory Board member Juanita Jones expired on September 30, 2012. Ms. Jones has submitted an application to serve an additional five-year term ending September 30, 2017. She served the Library Advisory Board as its chairperson for a number of consecutive one-year terms, and led the Board through special sessions held in 2009 in response to a book challenge. She has a Bachelors degree with a Master of Arts in Reading, and served thirty-six years as an educator in the public school system. Ms. Jones is also the author of two books.

Options:

1. Appoint the applicant, Juanita Jones, to the Library Advisory Board;

2. Such alternative action as the Commission may deem appropriate

RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LEESBURG, FLORIDA APPOINTING ONE MEMBER TO THE LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD TO A FIVE-YEAR TERM, SAID TERM TO EXPIRE ON SEPTEMBER 30, 2017, AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LEESBURG, FLORIDA:

1. THAT the City of Leesburg Commission finds there is an appointment to be made to the Library Advisory Board in keeping with Section 2, Division 3 (1-92) of the Code of Ordinance of the City relating to the provision of library services,

2. THAT the City Commission hereby appoints _______________ to the five-year term to expire September 30, 2017,

THAT this resolution shall become effective immediately.
