Subject: Location Site & Construction of Dog Park
Staff Recommendation:
Staff
recommends approval of the location site and construction of the proposed Dog Park located at
9745 Silver Lake Drive.
Analysis:
AThere is approximately
$75,000
is in Fiscal Year 05/06 Budget for the construction of a Dog Park
facility. Staff has discussed several site locations including
the property located at 1450 Neeley Road (Old Landfill). Due to some environmental issues, development
of this site would be more time consuming and more difficult
than originally anticipated is no longer available. Since the
grant from the County has a time limitation upon the use of the funds, we have
elected to look at other alternative locations.
Staff now
proposes to use has proposed usage of the property located at
9745 Silver Lake Drive across from the City Airport.
There
is Aapproximately 20
acres are available at
this location andwith
approximately 2 ½ acres would bebeing utilized
for the Dog Park facility. This facility will not have a
detrimental impact anyon flight
operations.
This
site has met the been discussed with and received
the approval of the Airport Manager, Charlie Weller.
Currently
staff has received bids for fencing, applied for
permitting, developed budget for parking, water, signage and other amenities.
Design and construction will be performed by Recreation & Parks Staff.Commission
approval of this location for the construction of the Dog Park is hereby being requested.
Staff has
placed an additional $75,000 in Fiscal Year 06/07 Budget for the completion of
the Dog Park.
Options:
1.
Approve site location & construction of Dog Park ; or;
2. Such alternative action as the Commission may deem appropriate
Fiscal Impact:
The Fiscal Year
05/06 Budget contains $75,000 for the
construction of a Dog Park facility with an
additional $75,000 in the 06/07 Budget to complete the park. There will
be minimal yearly maintenance costs associated with construction of the
Dog Park.
