Staff recommends approval of a resolution approving the Dabney School K-8 Charter School application and authorizing that it be submitted to the Lake County School Board by the City Manager, with authority for the City Manager to make necessary technical modifications and authority to sign any additional documents to properly file said application on behalf of the City of Leesburg.
At the July 10, 2006 City Commission meeting Resolution No. 7668 was adopted authorizing the Mayor to deliver a letter to the Lake County School Board requesting the use of Dabney Elementary School for the operation of a Charter School.
The Lake County School Board met on July 28th, with a vote of 3 to 2, directed us to take the next step in the charter school process which is to file an application with them.
1. Adopted the attached resolution; or
2. Such alternative action as the Commission may deem appropriate

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LEESBURG, FLORIDA APPROVING THE DABNEY SCHOOL K-8 CHARTER SCHOOL APPLICATION SUBMITTED BY THE CITY MANAGER ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF LEESBURG TO THE LAKE COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD.; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LEESBURG, FLORIDA:
THAT the City Commission hereby approves the Dabney School K-8 Charter School application submitted by the City Manager with authority for the City Manager to make necessary technical modifications and authority to sign documents to properly file said application on behalf of the City of Leesburg with the Lake County School Board.
THAT this resolution shall become effective immediately.
