Subject:                      Leesburg Public Library Advisory Board Appointments

Staff Recommendation:

Staff recommends appointment of Ms. Carol Schlachtenhaufen and Ms. Sue B. Geiger to the Leesburg Public Library Advisory Board.  The terms are to expire as follows: September 30, 2010 to fill an unexpired term created by the resignation of Ms. Christina Hansen; the second is a full term for the position recently held by Ms. Geiger which will expire on September 30, 2011.  The positions were advertised as required.

Analysis:

Ms. Geiger’s term expired on Sept 30, 2006. She filed the required forms to seek reappointment to the Board. (see attached).  Ms. Geiger served for three years, having been appointed in 2003 to fill an unexpired term.  Ms. Geiger has been a long-time Friend of the Library and has held the position of President of that organization.

Ms. Schlachtenhaufen applied through the City Clerk’s office.  She has been a member of the Friends of the Library, is a retired High School Counselor, is a member of the Retired Teachers Association, and was employed at library in her youth. 

Options:

1.  Appoint each of these applicants to one of the terms available on the Board

2.  Such alternative action as the Commission may deem appropriate

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LEESBURG, FLORIDA APPOINTING TO THE LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD ____________________ TO COMPLETE A FIVE-YEAR TERM EXPIRING SEPTEMBER 30, 2010 AND APPOINTING _____________________ FOR A FIVE-YEAR TERM EXPIRING SEPTEMBER 30, 2011; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LEESBURG, FLORIDA:

1. THAT the City of Leesburg Commission finds there are two appointments to be made to the Leesburg Public Library Advisory Board in keeping with Section 2, Division 3 (2-92) of the Code of Ordinances of the City relating to the provision of library services.

2. THAT the City Commission hereby appoints _______________ to complete a five-year term vacated by a resignation, term to expire on September 30, 2010.

3. THAT the City Commission hereby appoints ____________ for a five-year term to expire on September 30, 2011.

4. THAT this resolution shall become effective immediately.
