Subject:                      Resolution authorizing an agreement with Lake County, Florida to provide Leased Fiber Optic services.                                              

 

 

Staff Recommendation:

Staff recommends approval of a resolution authorizing execution of an agreement with Lake County, Florida, for Leased Fiber Optic services between 8130 County Road 44 Leg A (Comcast) and 13130 County Landfill Road, Tavares (Florida Cable Company) for a total of 9.2 miles.

 

Analysis:

The City of Leesburg is supplying a leased fiber optic line that provides connectivity between Comcast’s head end network center in Leesburg, and Florida Cable Company’s head end network center. This connection was installed as part of the Lake Front TV connection to Comcast, and Lake County’s Emergency Operations Center. Lake County agreed to pay for the connection. The County Commission has signed the contract, and the County Attorney and City Attorney have reviewed and approved the contract.

 

Options:

1.  Approve a resolution authorizing execution of the agreement with Lake County, Florida.

2.  Such alternative action as the Commission may deem appropriate

 

Fiscal Impact: 

The City of Leesburg will realize additional revenue of $938.00 per month [$11,256.00 per year]. The costs to provide the service and maintain the network are typical costs in adding customers to the City’s fiber optic network.  The cost for installation of this connection, with the exception of fiber splicing, was paid by the County in FY 2006. Ongoing support costs are included in the operating budget for FY 2007.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LEESBURG, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND CITY CLERK TO EXECUTE AN AGREEMENT WITH LAKE COUNTY, FLORIDA TO PROVIDE LEASED FIBER OPTIC SERVICES BETWEEN 8130 COUNTY ROAD 44 LEG A (COMCAST) AND 13130 COUNTY LANDFILL ROAD; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LEESBURG, FLORIDA:

 

            THAT the Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized to execute an agreement with LAKE COUNTY, FLORIDA, whose address is 315 W. Main Street, Tavares, FL 32778 for Leased Fiber Optic services between 8130 County Road 44 Leg A (Comcast) and 13130 County Landfill Road, Tavares (Florida Cable Company) for a total of 9.2 miles.

 

             THAT this resolution shall become effective immediately.
