Subject:                      Resolution accepting Grant Funding from Workforce Central Florida, Inc.

Staff Recommendation:       

Staff recommends approval to accept a Grant in an amount not to exceed $5,921.55 from Workforce Central Florida to fund 50% percent of the tuition expenses for seven electrical workers enrolled in the Apprentice Lineman Educational Program.

Analysis:

For the past five years, the City has fully funded the educational expenses for electrical workers enrolled in the Apprentice Lineman Program administered by the Lake Sumter Community College.

This year staff made application to Workforce Central Florida for a grant to fund 50% of the educational expenses for seven electrical workers enrolled in the Apprentice Lineman Program.  Funds will be used to pay tuition expenses to Lake Sumter Community College.  Funds are awarded as matching funds.

Options:

1.  Accept funds that have been awarded.

2.  Such alternative action as the Commission may deem appropriate

Fiscal Impact: 

City’s match of $5,921.55 will provide educational funding for the Electric Department’s Apprentice Program (7 Apprentices).

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LEESBURG, FLORIDA ACCEPTING GRANT FUNDING FROM WORKFORCE CENTRAL FLORIDA, INC. FOR FIFTY PERCENT OF TUITION EXPENSES FOR SEVEN ELECTRICAL WORKERS ENROLLED IN THE APPRENTICE LINEMAN EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM AT LAKE SUMTER COMMUNITY COLLEGE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LEESBURG, FLORIDA:

            THAT the Commission  hereby accepts 50% grant funding from  Workforce Central Florida whose address is 1097 Sand Pond Road, Suite 1009, Lake Mary, Florida 32746, for matching funds for the Electric Department’s Apprentice Lineman Educational Program, not to exceed $5,921.55.

 THAT this resolution shall become effective immediately.
