Subject:                      Resolution authorizing an Agreement with American Bass Anglers, Inc.

to host the 2007 American Fishing Tour National Championship

November 2-10, 2007.

Staff Recommendation:

Staff recommends approval of an agreement with American Bass Anglers, Inc for the City to host the 2007 American Fishing Tour National Championship on the Harris Chain of Lakes.

Analysis:

The City of Leesburg continues to host various fishing tournaments with great success.  The American Bass Anglers, Inc. will sponsor their American Fishing Series National Championship on the Lake Harris Chain of Lakes hosted by the City of Leesburg,  Friday, November 2, 2007, through Saturday, November 10, 2007. 

American Bass Anglers will invite the top 400 qualifying anglers from each of the American Bass Anglers four Regional Championships, plus the top 10% of the 2006 Championship finishers totaling 500.  This tournament will provide mutual benefits for both the ABA and the City of Leesburg.

Options:

1.  Approve the resolution authorizing an agreement with American Bass Anglers, Inc. or;

2.  Such alternative action as the Commission may deem appropriate

Fiscal Impact:   

The City’s portion of the fee includes the following: $5,000 half of the meal costs, $140 Community Building rental, $800 Park and Recreation staff services, $1000 Event Coordinator Bill Deese, $1000 traffic control by LPD and $165 for portable bathrooms for a total of $8105.00    The  $25,000 tournament fee will be paid by the Central Florida Sports Commission.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LEESBURG AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND CITY CLERK TO EXECUTE AN AGREEMENT WITH THE AMERICAN BASS ANGLERS, INC TO HOST THE 2007 AMERICAN FISHING TOUR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP NOVEMBER 2 THROUGH NOVEMBER 10, 2007; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LEESBURG, FLORIDA:

            THAT the Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized to execute an agreement  with the American Bass Anglers, Inc. whose address is 901 S.E. Jefferson Street, Athens, Alabama 35611 to host the American Bass Anglers, American Fishing Series National Championship Friday, November 2, 2007 through Saturday, November 10, 2007.

 THAT this resolution shall become effective immediately.
