Subject:                      Resolution Authorizing Police Department Personnel to apply for and accept, if awarded, the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant

Staff Recommendation:

Staff recommends authorizing Police Department Personnel to apply for and accept, if awarded, the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) in an amount of no less than $17,456.00 and no more than $28,590.00 for one or more portable electronic information signs and accessories.

Analysis:

The Edward Byrne Memorial Assistance Grant is awarded annually to qualifying law enforcement agencies throughout Florida.  The purpose of the grant is to support law enforcement initiatives designated to improve the quality of life within their local community.

Options:

1.   To approve the application for and acceptance, if awarded, of the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice  Assistance Grant.

2.  Such alternative action as the Commission may deem appropriate

Fiscal Impact: 

The acceptance of this grant does not require matching City funds

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LEESBURG, FLORIDA AUTHORIZING THE POLICE DEPARTMENT PERSONNEL TO APPLY FOR AND ACCEPT, IF AWARDED, THE EDWARD BYRNE MEMORIAL JUSTICE ASSISTANCE GRANT TO BE USED TO PURCHASE ONE OR MORE PORTABLE ELECTRONIC INFORMATION SIGNS AND ACCESSORIES; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LEESBURG, FLORIDA:

            THAT the City of Leesburg Police Department Personnel are hereby authorized to apply for and accept, if awarded, the Edward Byrne Memorial Justic Assistance Grant, for the purchase of one or more portable electronic information signs and accessories.

 THAT this resolution shall become effective immediately.
