Subject:                      Resolution authorizing re-organizing the Parks & Recreation Department by eliminating the Assistant Director of Parks & Recreation position and reclassifying two positions in the Department

Staff Recommendation:

Staff recommends approval of re-organizing the Parks & Recreation Department by eliminating the Assistant Director of Parks & Recreation position and reclassifying one Athletic Supervisor position to Assistant Director of Recreation and reclassifying the Parks & Athletic Fields Manager to Assistant Director of Parks.

Analysis:

Currently, the Parks and Recreation Department has an opening for the position of Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation.  Due to the specialized nature of each area, staff recommends reclassification of two positions, one in Parks and one in Recreation.  This will increase the efficiencies of both divisions and allow those individuals to focus on each area giving proper attention to all details in each respective division.   The net result will be the reduction of one full time position.

Options:

1.  Approve resolution authorizing the re-organization to Parks & Recreation Department or;

2.  Such alternative action as the Commission may deem appropriate

Fiscal Impact: 

The savings resulting from the elimination of the Assistant Director of Parks & Recreation position and reclassifications of one Athletic Supervisor position to Assistant Director of Recreation and reclassifying the Parks & Athletic Fields Manager to Assistant Director of Parks will result in budgetary savings of $47,269.04.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LEESBURG, FLORIDA AUTHORIZING RE-ORGANIZATION OF PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT BY ELIMINATING THE ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF PARKS & RECREATION POSITION AND RECLASSIFYING ONE ATHLETIC SUPERVISOR POSITION  TO ASSISTANT RECREATION DIRECTOR OF RECREATION AND RECLASSIFYING THE PARKS & ATHLETIC FIELDS MANAGER POSITION TO ASSISTANT PARKS DIRECTOR OF PARKS; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LEESBURG, FLORIDA:

            THAT the City Commission hereby authorizes re-organization of the Parks & Recreation Department by eliminating the Assistant Director of Parks & Recreation position and reclassifying one Athletic Supervisor position to Assistant Recreation Director of Recreation and reclassifying Parks & Athletic Fields Manager position to Assistant Parks Director. of Parks.

 THAT this resolution shall become effective immediately.
