AGENDA MEMORANDUM

Meeting Date:           August 13, 2007

From:                          Mike Thornton, Purchasing Manager

Subject:                      Resolution authorizing execution of Task Order 17 with Boyle Engineering, Inc. for booster pump station and distribution system design

Staff Recommendation:

Staff recommends execution of Task Order 17 with Boyle Engineering, Inc. for $143,396.00.

Analysis:

The City previously authorized Boyle Engineering, Inc. to perform a hydraulic analysis on the southern section of the water distribution system.  The analysis was requested to identify the best method to resolve low pressures in this section of the City’s water distribution system.  The results of that analysis recommend the City construct a new potable water booster pump station and new distribution system piping to provide the necessary pressure increase in this section.

The new booster pump station will be located within the City’s Lift Station 6-C site located along the east side of US-27 between Corely Island Road and Magnolia Avenue.  The new 10-inch water main is to be constructed within the right-of-way of CR 33 completing a water system distribution loop.

Execution of Task Order 17 will authorize Boyle Engineering to design the necessary improvements, prepare construction bid documents, and prepare permit applications.  This work, if approved, will be performed under the existing continuing services agreement for engineering services between the City and Boyle Engineering, Inc.

Options:

1.  Approve execution Task Order 17 to Boyle Engineering, Inc.; or

2.  Such alternative action as the Commission may deem appropriate

Fiscal Impact

This project is listed on the bond issue projects.  In order to begin work immediately, this project will initially be funded from the water utility capital projects account listed here.  The capital projects account will be reimbursed from the proceeds of the bond issue when those funds are received.  There are sufficient funds available in this account for this project.
