Subject: Award Bid 70301 to Walker-Miller Equipment for the purchase of one 106 kW portable back-up generator
Staff Recommendation:
Staff recommends award of bid 70301 to Walker-Miller Equipment, Co. Inc. for $29,953.00.
Analysis:
The Fleet Services Division budgeted $60,000 for the purchase of portable back-up generators. This bid was issued with minimum requirements for the generators. We asked vendors to propose units that met or exceeded the minimum requirements and whose cost did not exceed $30,000. We essentially asked vendors to propose units that would provide the ‘most generator for the money’.
The Purchasing Division received 19 responses. Of the 19, Walker-Miller was deemed to have proposed the most generator for the money. The Fleet Manager has evaluated all the submittals and the specifications for each unit. The unit from Walker-Miller provides 106 kilowatts of power, far more than any of the other units proposed.
Fleet Services has decided to purchase one new portable generator and use the balance of funds to convert an existing 500 kilowatt stationary generator to portable.
Options:
1. Award bid 70301 to Walker-Miller Equipment Co., Inc.; or
2. Such alternative action as the Commission may deem appropriate
Fiscal Impact:
Funds of $60,000 were budgeted for the purchase of two new generators. This purchase will come from that budgeted amount.
