Subject:                      Resolution Authorizing an agreement with BASS, LLC to hold 2008 ELITE Series Tournament March 6 through March 9, 2008.

Staff Recommendation:

Staff recommends approval of an agreement with BASS, LLC to hold the 2008 ELITE Series Tournament March 6 through March 9, 2008 on the Harris Chain of Lakes.

Analysis:

BASS, LLC is seeking to hold the ELITE Series Fishing Tournament on the Harris Chain of Lakes within the City of Leesburg from Thursday, March 6 through Sunday, March 9, 2008.   The contract associated with this tournament is submitted for your review and approval.

BASS, LLC will design, arrange, print and distribute the official schedule of events for the tournament.  The will also arrange for all assignment of observers/and or co anglers and provide tournament results on ESPN2.  This tournament will provide mutual benefits for both the BASS, LLC and the City of Leesburg.

Although this contract amount is within the signature authority of the City Manager, staff felt the City Commission would want to consider this item directly.

Options:

1.  Approve the resolution authorizing an agreement with BASS, LLC or;

2.  Such alternative action as the Commission may deem appropriate

Fiscal Impact: 

The City’s portion of the tournament fee (paid to BASS, LLC) is $15,000.  The total obligation of the City, including the fee and all support services, is estimated at $21,645.  Chuck Johnson committed to providing $7,000, bringing the City’s share down to $14,645.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LEESBURG, FLORIDA AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND CITY CLERK TO EXECUTE AN AGREEMENT WITH BASS LLC TO HOST THE 2008 ELITE SERIES TOURNAMENT MARCH 6 THROUGH MARCH 9, 2008; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LEESBURG, FLORIDA:

            THAT the Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized to execute an agreement  with BASS, LLC, whose address is 13041 Collection Center Drive, Chicago, Illinois  60693 to hold the 2008 ELITE Series Tournament on Thursday, March 6 through March 9, 2008 on the Harris Chain of Lakes.

 THAT this resolution shall become effective immediately.
