Subject:                      Resolution authorizing  Street Name Approval of Red Raider Road

 

 

Staff Recommendation:

The Planning staff recommends approval of naming of Red Raider Road.

 

Analysis:

In conjunction with the Leesburg Gymnasium, a street is being constructed on the west side of the site on the former railroad right-of-way.  The new street also abuts the Carver Middle School to the west.  The attached sketch depicts the location of the new street.  The street name, Red Raider Road, has been requested as it is the name of the mascot for Carver Middle School.

 

Section 18-84 of the City Code addresses naming of streets.  The GIS Division has confirmed that the name “Red Raider Road” is not a duplication of any existing city street. 

 

Options:        

1.         Approve the request to name the street Red Raider Road.

2.         Other such action as the Commission may deem appropriate.

 

Fiscal Impact: 

The proposed street name assignment will result in the need for one  new street sign to be installed.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LEESBURG, FLORIDA, APPROVING THE NAMING OF RED RAIDER ROAD, GENERALLY LOCATED SOUTH OF GRIFFIN ROAD ABUTTING CARVER MIDDLE SCHOOL TO THE WEST, LYING IN SECTION 22, TOWNSHIP 19 SOUTH, RANGE  24 EAST; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LEESBURG, FLORIDA:

 

            THAT the name of the following described street, which is Red Raider Road, is hereby approved and accepted by the City of Leesburg, Florida:

             THIS RESOLUCION shall become effective immediately.

 

PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Commission of the City of Leesburg, Florida, at a regular meeting held the 13th day of November, 2007.
