Subject: Commissions Direction on the
Future Report on condition Demolition of
the Girl Scout Building
Staff Recommendation:
Staff is recommendsing
the demolition of the Girl Scout Building located at 610 S. 9th
Street. Because of the history and the uniqueness of the Girl Scout Building,
staffwe
is
providing this information to would like to make the
Commission Members aware of this project
in order for them to provide us with any for opinions
and/or direction they may have regarding the demolitionbuilding’s future.
Analysis:
The
building is an a-frame construction
and is approximately
720 square feet. The building was built in 1958 for the Girl Scouts. and is not
being utilized at this time. The
condition of the building has deteriorated to a point that it is no longer used. and ishas been scheduled for
demolition. The Public WorksFacility Maintenance
Division budget We hasve
$14,190.00
in account 001-8124-572-6210 designated for
the demolition designated
for the Girl Scount Building. Staff We havehas investigated future options
for the facility. Option 1 is would be demolition.
Staff received three (3) quotes, with
the lowest quote of at $10,600.00
fromreceived from
Cochran’s Excavating. Option 2 is would be to
repair the building. After reviewing option 2s to repair the
building, staffwe gathered the
following list of issues that would need to be addressed:

Approve
the demolition of the Girl Scout BuildingDirection from the Commission to
demolish or repair the building, or
2. Such alternative action as the Commission may deem appropriate
Fiscal Impact:
Total cost to
repair the building as detailed above is approximately $3840,000. Funds of $15,000
designated
for the demolition are available. in account 001-8124-572-6210.

of $15,000 in the 2006-07 budget for the
Girl Scout Hut Repair. During the rollover process, the funds
were rolled into the 2007-08 budget. Due to the
condition of the building the designation of the funds was changed from
repair to demolition of the Girl Scout Hut. Funds of There is $14,190 are budgeted and available
