streets and expenditure approval

Recommendation:
Staff
recommends approval of resurfacing the listed streets for a total estimated
amount of $296,652.43.
Analysis:
Attached
is a listing of streets identified to be resurfaced during the 2008 fiscal
year. A total of $300,000.00 was budgeted in FY2008 for the street resurfacing
program. The Purchasing Division issued an Invitation to Bid for unit prices
of asphalt put in place. Based on those unit prices, the Public Works
Department has selected 42 streets or street segments to be resurfaced for the
budgeted amount of $300,000.00.
The
attached listing shows the streets selected sorted worst condition to better
condition. The last two columns show the estimated amount to resurface each
street or segment, and the last column reflects the running total. The cost
per street includes any milling (grinding), asphalt put in place, manhole
adjustments, and valve box adjustments for each street. Not all streets will
require all services listed resulting in a cost difference for streets that are
of similar length and width. Any striping replacement will be performed by
City staff.
Following
the list of 42 streets, are 15 additional streets identified for future
resurfacing. These streets may be done this year if additional funds are
obtained. The amount for the primary list of 42 streets is an estimated
amount. If the actual cost to resurface the primary list is less, the Public
Works Department will use the remaining funds to start on the secondary list of
15 streets.
Options:
1.
Approve the streets listed and the expenditure; or
2.
Such alternative action as the Commission may deem appropriate

Impact:
Funds
of $300,000.00 have been budgeted and are available for the Fiscal Year 2008
street resurfacing program.
