AGENDA MEMORANDUM
Meeting Date: June 23, 2008
From: Chief William J. Chrisman
Subject: Request for Appropriation of Forfeiture Funds to Support the Neighborhood Accountability Board – Mitigation for First Time Offenders
Staff Recommendation:
Staff respectfully recommends the appropriation of $1,500.00 to Support the Neighborhood Accountability Board – Mitigation for First Time Offenders.
Analysis:
Neighborhood Accountability Boards (NAB’s) are an innovative approach to dealing with minor juvenile offenses without formal prosecution. Restorative Justice is about repairing harm to victims and communities, and making offenders directly accountable to those who were harmed. Additionally, NAB’s allow the offender to understand the actual harm caused by their actions.
Options:
1. To approve the appropriations of Forfeiture Funds of $1,500.00
2. Such alternative action as the Commission may deem appropriate
Fiscal Impact:
Funding is available for this purpose and is an authorized use of Law Enforcement Trust Funds.
