Subject:                      Request for Appropriation of Forfeiture Funds to be utilized for the Leesburg Recreational Department Athletic Sponsorship money for the underprivileged youth in the community

Staff Recommendation:

Staff respectfully recommends the appropriation of $8,000.00 to assist in sponsoring our community’s underprivileged youth for various recreation programs provided by the City of Leesburg Recreation Department.

Analysis:

The City of Leesburg Recreation and Parks Department provides numerous activities in which the community’s children can participate. There is a need for some of our community’s youth to be sponsored monetarily to participate in these activities. The Leesburg Police Department is committed to the area youth and currently provides numerous activities for the youth. The sponsorship funding is another opportunity for the Leesburg Police Department to partner with the Leesburg Recreation Department to provide a much needed service to these children. After all, the youth of Leesburg are the most valuable resource for the future of our community and represent our future.

Options:

1.  To approve the appropriations of Forfeiture Funds of $8,000.00

2.  Such alternative action as the Commission may deem appropriate

Fiscal Impact: 

Funding is available for this purpose and is an authorized use of Law Enforcement Trust Funds.
