Subject:                       Resolution amending Resolution 8213, which authorized the One-Time Window of Expanded Retiree Health Insurance Eligibility for Employees Eligible for Early Retirement, to change the Notice of Retirement date to July 17, 2008, at 12:00 Noon

Staff Recommendation:

Staff recommends amending Resolution 8213 to change the date the notice of retirement is required from the close of business July 2, 2008, to July 17, 2008, at 12:00 Noon.

Analysis:

The City Commission held the first reading of two ordinances related to the changes in the General Employees Pension Plan June 23, 2008.  The Commission adopted Resolution 8213 at the June 23, 2008 meeting, which offered a one-time window of expanded retiree health insurance eligibility to employees eligible for early retirement. Any employees who elected to provide the City with notice of their intentions to retire under this option had to provide their notice to Human Resources no later than the end of the business day July 2, 2008.

The two ordinances were scheduled for adoption at the special meeting June 30, 2008, but were tabled until July 15, 2008.  After the ordinances were tabled, City Manager Evans extended  the notice of retirement date for the one-time window of expanded retiree health insurance eligibility to July 17, 2008 at 12:00 Noon.

This resolution amends Resolution 8213 to extend the notice of retirement date to July 17, 2008 at Noon.

Options:

1.  Approve the Resolution to extend the notice of retirement date to July 17, 2008, at 12:00 noon; or
