Subject:                      Fair Housing Workshop

Staff Recommendation:

Staff is recommendsing the City Commission hold the Fair Housing Workshop and authorize the Fair Housing Workshop and accept comments from the general public regarding the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) application submittal. 

Analysis:

The City of Leesburg is holding a Ffair hHousing wWorkshop to explain the Fair Housing Ordinance for all of the protected classes (race, color, familial status, handicap, national origin, religion and sex).   The City Commission has adopted specific policies in the City’s Growth Management Plan to support fair housing within the City, and the City of Leesburg is applying to the Florida Department of Community Affairs (DCA) for a Small Cities Community Development Block Grant.  The workshop is a requirement for submission of the CDBG application. 

Options:

1.  Approve the Fair Housing Workshop and accept comments from the public; or

2.  Such alternative action as the Commission may deem appropriate

Fiscal Impact: 

There is no direct fiscal impact related to the workshop.

A resolution of the City Commission of the City of Leesburg, Florida authorizing the Fair Housing Workshop for the Community Development Block Grant Application submittal; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LEESBURG, FLORIDA:

WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Leesburg, Florida has adopted specific policies in the City’s Growth Management Plan to support fair housing within the City, and

WHEREAS, the City of Leesburg is applying to the Florida Department of Community Affairs (DCA) for a Small Cities Community Development Block Grant (CDBG); and,
