Subject:                      Budget Calendar for Fiscal Year 2009-10      

 

 

Staff Recommendation:

Staff recommends City Commission approval of the budget calendar for fiscal year 2009-10, which includes dates for the commission workshop meetings.

 

Analysis:

The first step in the budget process is to establish a calendar for fiscal year 2009-10.  By law, the City is allowed 45 days from July 1st or the date the Property Appraiser notifies the City Commission of the certified taxable values for 2009, whichever is later, to certify to following:

1)      the proposed millage rate for 2009,

2)      rolled back millage rate for 2009, and

3)      the date, time, and place of the public hearing to consider the proposed millage rate and tentative budget.

 

Since the City is not allowed to hold a public hearing on the same date as Lake County or the Lake County School Board, Staff has tentatively scheduled the first public hearing for September 10, 2009.

 

As indicated on the attached calendar, the budget work sessions, subject to approval and/or modification by the Commission are scheduled as follows:

           

July-                14th, 16th, 20th, 23rd, 28th, and 30th budget/capital improvement plan workshops

            July 27th-         establish the 2009 millage rate

            August 3rd-       budget/capital improvement plan workshop

           

 

Options:

1.  Approve the budget calendar, as presented, or

2.  Approve the calendar as modified by the commission
