Staff recommends approval of the resolution authorizing the Police Department to apply for and accept, if awarded, a federal grant of $804,702.00 to supplement costs associated with emergency services dispatch.
This grant will pay approximately ½ the cost for salaries and benefits for the dispatch center over a 24 month period. During the 24 month period covered by the grant, staffing must remain constant. No residual staffing requirement exists beyond the 24 month period.
By agreeing, the city assumes no additional liability.
Deadline for application is April 27, 2009
1. Approve the resolution authorizing the application and acceptance of a federal grant of $804,702.00; or
2. Such other action the Commission deems appropriate.
There is no matching requirment. If awarded, there will be a positive effect on General Fund revenues for Fiscal Years 2010 and 2011.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF LEESBURG, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE LEESBURG POLICE DEPARTMENT TO APPLY FOR THE EDWARD BYRNE GRANT FOR $804,702.00 TO SUPPLEMENT COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH EMERGENCY SERVICES DISPATCH, AND ACCEPT THE GRANT; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LEESBURG, FLORIDA:
THAT the Leesburg Police Department is hereby authorized to apply for the Edward Byrne grant for $804,702.00 to supplement costs associated with emergency services dispatch, and accept the grant.
THAT this resolution shall become effective immediately.
