Subject: Purchase of one used 52,000 GVWR semi tractor (day cab).
Staff Recommendation:
Staff recommends the purchase of a used 2006 Mack Truck from Nextran Truck Center of Orlando for a total price of $49,500.00.
Analysis:
The purpose of this purchase is to replace an existing 1987 Kenworth Semi-Tractor. This unit is assigned to the Environmental Services Department and used for hauling residual waste from the waste water treatment plant. The existing unit is 22 years old and the maintenance costs are becoming too high.
The Purchasing Division issued Invitation to Bid (ITB) 90271 with minimum specifications provided by the Fleet Services Division. On April 20, 2009, five responses to our ITB were received. The detailed bid tabulation is attached for your review.
The Fleet Manager has evaluated the bids received and determined the 2006 Mack Truck offered by Nextran Truck Center to be the best value to the City. This truck has approximately 2 years remaining on the manufacturers’ warranty, meets the minimum requirements requested, and in some areas exceeds the requirements. Additionally, Fleet Services is certified to perform warranty repairs for Mack brand equipment.
The selected truck has approximately 150,000 miles and 4,659.8 hours. This truck is being removed from a fleet lease program and has been regularly maintained by a Mack Truck certified service center.
Options:
1. Purchase the used 2006 Mack Truck from Nextran Truck Center of Orlando; or
2. Such alternative action as the Commission may deem appropriate
Fiscal Impact:
Funds of $50,000.00 are available for this expenditure thru cost savings on other purchases and the re-prioritization of vehicles.
