Leesburg to Host Free Holiday Light-up Event at Venetian Gardens

Leesburg’s Parks and Recreation Department will host its annual holiday light-up celebration at 6 p.m. Nov. 26 featuring thousands of brilliant lights and one special dancing ballerina.

Leesburg Parks and Recreation staff member Mary Holcomb paints a ballerina display for the city's free light-up holiday celebration at Venetian Gardens. The centerpiece of the free event at scenic Venetian Gardens on Dixie Avenue will be a life-sized ballerina decoration twirling atop a 35-foot-tall Christmas tree with sparkling lights coordinated to special holiday music. The large tree display was created by members of the Parks and Recreation staff to bring more magic to one of the year’s most popular activities.

Other new displays include a penguin village and a life-sized Christmas pirate with a treasure chest and parrot. Local Girl Scouts are creating several special displays for visitors to photograph. Most displays will be located on Dozier Circle and Martin Luther King Island at Venetian Gardens.

The free light-up event on Nov. 26 also will have live music and refreshments. The lights will shine nightly through Jan. 1. For more information, call 352-728-9870.
