Buying a home is a good investment despite currently depressed property values. It also can generate considerable economic activity for area businesses.
The sale of an existing, median-priced home for $173,000 creates $58,529 in economic benefits, according to the National Association of Realtors. That includes $15,570 for real estate agents, title companies and mortgage brokers. Another $5,235 goes to furniture and landscaping.
About 67 percent of American homes are owner-occupied, the NAR reports.
Leesburg is a progressive city of more than 20,000 residents in northwest Lake County. The city government serves twice as many people with its electric, gas, water, wastewater and fiber-optic public utilities. Leesburg also is a central hub for commerce, attracting 50,000 people to work each weekday.
